A man being charged as part of a plot to kill 2 bookies and kidnap a member of their own La Costa gang pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit a kidnapping. The man 25 years old could be sentenced to up to 9 years in jail for these charges. His sentencing hearing will be held on March 23. He is the third gang member to plead guilty in the case.
According to the Deputy District Attorney the gang leader had built up a large debt with the bookies, so he decided to kill them to get rid of the debt, but the plan changed after one of the members of the gang decided to tell the local authorities and the two bookies of the gang?s intentions to kill them.
After finding out that a member of their gang had talked to the police the gang decided to kidnap and murder him.
Two other gang members who are suspected of being involved with the plot have pleaded not guilty and will go on trial in February.
The Defense Attorneys for the defendants say they never heard of any plan to kill anyone, and that their accuser is mentally unstable.
