Democratic Progressive Party legislator Kuo Jung-chung said that legalizing gambling in Taiwan will arise more social problems in the country. After the recent scandal involving politicians and gambling, the issue of the legalization of casinos in the country has become even more controversial.
In support of Kuos thesis, Yeh Chih-Kuei, professor at National Dong Hwa University, said that taking the example of the high crime rates and political corruption in states like Atlantic City and Las Vegas which are home for casinos, it is not advisable at all to create such an industry in the country which will surely be a threat to social order. Taiwanese politicians always gambled abroad and it should continue to be like this. Yeh added that if those casinos were created in Taiwan there should be organized extra police bodies too, which it would be a waste of resources for the state.
A professor of ethics at Hsuan Chuang University, Shih Chao-Hui, is of the same opinion of the former and urged voters to vote against those politicians who are in favor of the legalization of gambling in the country. He also warned about the loss of moral and social order if casinos are legalized.
