Volunteers worked all day in order to protect casino from rising waters.

When the Kootenai river threat to flood theKootenai River Inn and Casino, the resort was saved by hundreds of volunteers who worked all day piling sandbags and protecting it from the water.

The river was expected to reach 1,767 feet above sea level, the highest it has been since the dam's construction in 1974. The dam operators dumped water to try to prevent the Koocanusa Reservoir from overflowing, but although the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the county, the city was forced to shut down the outflow pipe from its sewage treatment plant.

One of the areas the was mostly in danger was the Kootenai River Inn and Casino, but the resort was saved thanks to the brave volunteers.
