Appeals court decides suspension of an officer accused of involvement in illegal gambling was legal.

A three member appeals court decided that the suspension of a New Jersey State trooper was appropriate after the trooper was accused of talking about gambling with another officer who has since pleaded guilty to involvement in an illegal gambling ring.

The suspended officer has been on suspension since the tenth of March. According to authorities the trooper was caught on a wire talking to the other officer about gambling, but the officer?s lawyer says the evidence should be inadmissible since it is only part of a conversation, but the appeal court members disagreed.

Because the evidence was obtained as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, no further information about the content of the tape can be discussed according to the court, but they did say it was enough to warrant the officer?s suspension while the investigation is ongoing.

The officer?s lawyer told the Courier Post of Cherry Hill, New Jersey that he intended to appeal the courts decision to suspend his client on such flimsy evidence.

The suspended officer has not been charged with any crimes as of this point, is suspect of being a small cog in a large gambling ring that involved NJ police officers a former NHL star and several other well known personalities.
