NHL legend Wayne Gretzky attorney, Ron Fujikawa, said that his client would not face any charges regarding his alleged connection to the sports betting ring. Fujikawa told Reuters that Gretzky might be called to testify as a fact witness.
Wayne Gretzky, the lead coach and part owner of the Phoenix Coyotes, was constantly denying his involvement in the sports betting ring. His assistant coach Rick Tocchet has been charged with involvement in the gambling ring. Gretzky also serves as an executive director of Team Canadas ice hockey team.
Gretzkys wife, Janet Jones, is suspected to be spending large amount of money on gambling with the sports betting ring. Fujikawa could not speak for Jones since she is represented by a different attorney. According to a New Jersey official, it seem that Tocchet and two New Jersey men would be the only people to be charged for involvement in the sports betting ring.
