New petition by three Indian tribes calls for legalization of casino gambling in the state.

Three Nebraska Indian tribes are circulating a petition to legalize casino gambling in the state. The tribes call for opening a new casino, probably in Omaha, and also to legalize other casinos in the reservations.

Vote for this proposal will take place in November. The Winnebago, Santee Sioux and Omaha tribes will need to collect 115,000 signatures in order to reach the general election ballot.

The tribes, together with the Omaha consulting firm Affirmative Public Policy Solutions work together in order to change the last decision of the citizens of Nebraska, who voted down two plans for casinos in 2004.
The petition calls for one off-reservation, tribally owned Class III casino and the tribes promise in return not to build casinos on their reservations.
