Online betting is increasing its popularity in Germany, forcing traditional operators to turn to the Internet to broaden their business. Private operators like widely known Bet and Win dominate the German market, while traditional operators such as Hobiger/Wetten or Springer/oneXtwo do not focus anymore on retail business but on the Internet.
The gambling industry in Germany in controlled based on the federal structure of the state. Marketing and costs are clearly affected by this. Thus, the Internet was the only place where operators could have better revenues. Nowadays, Jazz/Fluxx and Tipp 24 dominate online state betting and lottery products. They hold a 60 percent share of betting market benefits, while DLTB holds the remaining 30 percent. Last spring, the lottery companies of Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Wurttemberg, and Hesse went online in order to compete with Tipp24, however, the later has not been overcome yet, due to antitrust laws.
