Indonesia National Mandate Party has retracted a leading lawmaker from the House of Representatives. The lawmaker, Djoko Edhi Sucipto participated in a gambling study in a trip to Egypt last year.
Some lawmakers claim that the National Mandate Party decision goes against the election law passed in 2004. According to the law, parties cannot retract lawmakers who were elected to the House. National Mandate Party representative said on Wednesday that Djoko participation in the gambling study was a severe betray of the party political principals.
Djoko had to leave his job since 56 party members voted for his removal from office. 45 party members voted against his removal while 7 others declined to vote. According to the National Mandate Party representative Zulfikli, every party member who would promote gambling in any way will lose his job.
