According to the new study, counties that host casinos had more crime and problem gambling.

A new study shows that Indiana counties that host casino gambling suffer more from crime and bankruptcy. The study was made by the Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute study and was supported by the Indiana Legislative Council and the Indiana Gaming Commission.

The Indiana Fiscal Policy Institute study shows that about 8 percent of the crime and more than one 1 million in bankruptcies in the last year is related to riverboat casinos. Even though there are many casinos in Lake County, Sheriff Roy Dominguez of Lake County police said he never met any special problems regarding the local casinos.

The study estimated the total social costs of casinos as between 75.7 million dollars and 98.6 million dollars in 2005. The study also measured the benefits of Indianas casinos, which are 763 million dollars in tax revenue and additional 52 million dollars in travel-time savings for local gamblers.
