Security employees at one of Ontario's largest casinos, Casino Niagara, have voted 92% in favor of strike action if negotiations fail to produce new collective agreement with the casino management.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU/NUPGE) is representing the security staff in the talks with the corporate consortium led by the Chicago-based Hyatt Corporation.
The casino security workers demands fair shift scheduling, reasonable disciplinary language and the hiring of more full-time staff. OPSEU representatives said that the workers hope that the vote will send a clear message to the employers and that they are ready to take action if needed.
The current contract between the security workers and the Casino expires in March 31, 2006.
