Peter Simon, an executive from Las Vegas has filed a notice of intent with the Mississippi Gaming Commission. This might be the first step towards a new casino in D'Iberville.
Simon, who used to work for Mandalay Resort Group before it was bought by MGM Mirage, plans a 52,500-square-foot casino with 50 tables and 1,500 slot machines.
This planned casino will be the first casino in D'Iberville. The city has been seeking a casino for more than 10 years and there have been plans for casinos in the city, but they were all abandoned.
Many people in D'Iberville hope that the new state law and the federal tax incentives for investment in hurricane-ravaged areas will spur a wave of casinos and other commercial projects along the coast.
