The gaming companies bidding for Pittsburgh casino licenses are discussing with local organizations about training programs that will fill the thousands jobs created by the casino buildings and openings.
Bidwell Training Center the adult education organization, had already talked about an association with Forest City Enterprises and Harrahs Entertainment, which bids for a casino complex. According to Bill Strickland, chief executive officer of Manchester Bidwell, they were discussing with Forest City a collaboration that would let Bidwell to train the food-service workers required by Harrahs casino. Harrahs and Forest City casino will require about 2,000 workers when it opens, which expected to occur within two years.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Isle of Capri Casinos have been discussing with the Community College of Allegheny County, and with the Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters. According to David Morehouse, a consultant for the Penguins, the college would train hospitality workers while the carpenters organization would train construction workers.
