Massachusetts Senate passed a bill to add slots to racetracks in the state.

Massachusetts Senate passed a bill to add 2,000 slot machines to each of the racetracks in the state. The bill is about to appear before the House for approval on early April, 2006. If the law will be passed, Massachusetts will join other 10 states that allow slots machines at the racetracks.
Massachusetts government believes that the new bill will add about 350 million dollars annually to the state's yearly revenue.

In a recent poll that was conducted by the Boston Globe, 53% of the population in Boston supported legalization of slot machines and 43% are opposed the legalization of gambling.
Those who oppose the bill believe that it will be the first step that will pave the way for larger casinos to come to the state. One of the opponents is the Republican Governor Mitt Romney, who is expected to veto the bill if it'll pass the House.
