According to rumors land based casinos are behind last year's decision to ban online gambling in the United States. Online gambling has been slowly taking profits away from casinos all around the country, because people do not want to have to drive 2 or 3 hours away just to do some gambling, when all they have to do is log on, and with gas prices as high as they are casinos were seeing less and less players every weekend.

For 1 month now the casinos in Atlantic City have been forced to enforce a no smoking in the casino law, and if not for the online casino ban signed into law in October of 2006 by President Bush, many players would stop making the drive to Atlantic City's casinos and stay home to gamble where they can still smoke.

Some experts are speculating that eventually online gambling will probably be made legal in America, and the casinos will be able to open their casinos over the internet, so by making them illegal now they will put many out of business, so to have less competition if and when they are allowed to enter the Online Gambling market.

Currently there is no proof that the casinos had anything to do with the speedy passage of the bill banning online casinos from operating in the USA, but the casino industry are very large contributors to many politicians and has many lobbyists working for them, and hold much influence with Washington's most influential leaders.
