According to reports in one of Canada's largest papers Canada is going to come under pressure from the British to regulate the online gambling industry.
The British have been spending a lot of time on this issue ever since online gambling was banned in the USA by President Bush. Canada is the world's third largest home to online casinos in the world.
The secretary of culture, media and sport in the UK hosted the first ever online gambling summit last week in London. She is trying to raise international support for global regulations in the online gambling world, in an attempt to stop other countries from banning online gambling as the USA did. Representatives from Quebec did attend the summit, but Canada did not participate officially in the meeting.
Those who are for Regulating the Online gambling industry say that by regulating the industry instead of banning it will bring in much desired new tax money, and that governments need to do everything to keep the online gambling industry legitimate to help protect from underage gambling and it would help instill faith in the online casinos.
Research released at the Online gambling Summit shows there are currently 2,300 internet gambling sites, with Antigua, Costa Rica and Canada as the top 3 host countries.
