A British based online bookmaker has decided to pay out thousands of dollars when the bookmaker made a mistake over the plot line of a popular TV soap series.
The bookmaker decided to accept bets on who was going to be the one to kill a popular character Charlie Stubbs on the show Coronation Street.
The bookmaker wrongly assumed that the writers were going to do a who shot JR style cliff hanger with everyone having to wait till next season to find out the identity of the killer, but the producers never made any attempt to hide the identity of the killer to be, as a matter of fact it had already been published in several soap magazines that Tracy Barlow was going to be the shooter.
A spokesman for the bookmaker said that the bookmaker will honor the beets and that it was going to cost them between $20,00 and $40,000 to pay everyone who correctly bet on Tracy as the killer.
"The media broke the story as though it was going to be a cliff-hanger similar to the "who shot Phil Mitchell" storyline on EastEnders," said the spokesman "What we didn't know was that at the time we started the book everyone already knew it was Tracy".
"We thought it was a 50-horse race when, in fact, it was a one-horse race and that horse had already crossed the finishing line."
The bookmaker said that besides pay all winners they would also be returning the money of gamblers who incorrectly guessed and wagered money on the wrong person as the killer.
Eve though at the time the bets were placed the losers had no chance of winning we will return their money in a sense of fair play at Christmas.
