Beloit Officials to push Casino Bids in Washington

Beloit officials plan to push local casino bids in a conference in Washington D.C The St. Croix and Bad River Band Chippewa applied for casino licenses last year. The applications were reviewed by Minnesota Bureau of Indian Affairs and then they will be sent to Washington for further study.

According to Herb Nelson, the BIA regional environmental expert, the environmental impact review is complete. He also approved that BIA works as usual, even though U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, is promoting a bill to reform the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

According to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, when the federal government holds a land in trust, the tribes cannot use it to build casinos, unless the Department of the Interior and the states governor agree that the casino would benefit the tribe and would not is the tribes best interest and would not disturb the neighboring community.
