Politician wants the Catholic Church to cooperate in restructuring gambling.

Philippines speaker Jose de Venecia has asked Archbishop Oscar Cruz to support the government plans regarding gambling. This support will consist on a close cooperation of both the government and the Catholic Church in the restructure of gambling authorities are planning to carry out. During the investiture of MacArthur Samson as the president of the University of Luzon, De Venecia had a private talk with Cruz about the jueteng issue. He asked him to have the Catholic Church cooperate with the Government to search for a basis of a new gambling structure.

Archbishop Cruz seems concerned about the money of poor people lost in corrupted behavior, that is why De Venecia said that the Government was thinking about creating a national state lotto program of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes. De Venecia wants the Church to get involved in this project, contribute with ideas, and cooperate. As a matter of fact, De Venecia wants to organize a meeting between Cruz and President Macapagal-Arroyo, who according to De Venecia, have the same ideas about gambling and many other things, despite the gaps intriguers have managed to create between them.
