A major online sportsbook located in Curacao has announced it has stopped accepting bets from anyone inside the United States.
Officials from the sportsbook said that the decision they made was because of the
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act signed into law by American President George Bush on October 13th 2006, which makes the transfer of money to accounts used for online gambling illegal.
According to a message posted on the sites website "After careful consideration, we have chosen to voluntarily exit the American market, accordingly, wagers will no longer be accepted from clients located in the United States as of (Jan. 11)."
The popular sportsbook also said that they will continue serving Canada and other countries, and that all remaining American Customers will be cashed out.
Officials from the site have said that since the passing of the law outlawing online gambling in the USA the company has had many problems doing business with American banks. The Company said that 40% of its business is from players from outside the USA and these would be the markets that they will now look to increase their market share.
On their website they listed about 20 racetracks they would take bets on Jan 12th they also listed proposition wagers on several of the races.
