Blackjack Etiquette and Behavior Codes
The blackjack table is the arena of excitement and thrill. Like in any other casino game, blackjack etiquette is important to the game and to the players and players or bystanders who act not according to the accepted behavior codes will feel unwelcome in the casinos.
Here are some accepted behavior codes that you must follow while playing blackjack:
- Blackjack is a game that requires concentration, so if you play or watch others play, try to minimize the noises that you produce. Don't accept calls in your cell phone and don't shout out loud at other players or the dealer.
- If you are watching other people play blackjack, do it from a reasonable distance and try not to state at the players cards. If there's an empty chair at the table, don't sit if you're not planning to join the game. Try not to distract the other players by making all sorts of noises or "helping" them by giving advices and so on.
- Don't slow the game. Place your bet as quickly as you can. Obviously you do have the right to think before your next move, but try not to turn it into a long period of thinking, because it's frustrating for the other players too. And if you are ordering a drink, do it between the hands.
- Respect the dealer. It's customary to tip the dealer every five or so bets, and when you first sit at the table, introduce yourself but don't turn it into a long and boring chat. When you leave the table, tip and thank the dealer whether you win or lose at the game.
- Learn the game before you start playing. Know the hit and stand signals and concentrate on the game itself and not your surroundings.
- Be patient. Don't ask for new decks if you are losing and don't touch your bets after you placed it on the table. If you're on a losing streak and you feel that it won't stop soon, move to another table.
