Learn About the History of Baccarat:

Baccarat history starts at middle ages. Some historians claim that the game was first played with Tarot cards. Born in Italy, it made its way to France where it soon became popular among the upper class aristocracy. Later on the game split to two variations European baccarat, and a French baccarat that is also called Chemin de Fer.

Chemin de Fer is played in American casinos today. The game is very similar to baccarat with the difference of one of the players banking the game instead of the casino. The title of banker rotates around the table like in the dice at a craps table. The interesting part is that the casino does not take any risk. They simply charge a fee from the banker.

Modern Baccarat:

The modern Baccarat was born in Britain and then passed to South America and to Nevada. Dunes casino introduced baccarat in the late 50s, and after that the game became popular throughout United States. Nowadays, it has made its final migration to the Internet.

Baccarat is also popular overseas. It often happens that the highest of the high rollers come from Far East countries to test their luck in stylish Las Vegas baccarat rooms. The popularity of baccarat has reached its peak at Macau, a small country near Hong Kong that consists of the Macau Peninsula and two islands in the South China sea, which previously was a Portuguese colony, but now is under the administrative rule of China. Macau baccarat tables are less ordered and systematic than those in American casinos. These tables often allow multiple players to bet on a single spot at the same round, and the dealers have a hard job keeping track of the commission of each player.
