Mashpee Wampanoag tribes are considering working on their 1 billion dollar casino in Middleboro. The tribes might likely work with Mohegan Sun investors per information from reliable sources in the tribe.
The tribes halted on their plans after their Chairman allegedly messed up with inappropriate contributions for campaigns. Notably, the former Chairman has been sentenced to Federal prison for manipulating the tribal casino revenues.
After the imprisonment of the former Chairman, the tribes are going to be back to work patching up with the what-to-dos in making their 1 billion casino dream a reality.
The tribe had previously purchased 539 acres for the purpose of making a casino in Middleboro. The paperwork to build a casino was approved and agreed upon by officials in charge in 2007.
The tribe has also worked to have their casino land placed under the Federal Trust by working closely with the US Department of Interior in this regard. The process also consisted of including the 140 acres of Cape Cod land in to the deal. It the officials approve the process; the 1-billion casino will not be in the traps of state taxes and related regulations.
With the government pinching their treasury for more funds it is doubtful if they will happily approve the same. Adding fuel to the fire is the ruling of the US Supreme Court, which has been of late against the Native American tribes to be able to place their land in Federal Trust. Whether the Wampanoags resort style casino in Middle borough will be a reality is subject to how they deal with the many hurdles.
